AN INVENTORY, 2017

AN INVENTORY of vases, “6151 Richmond Street” is a series of ceramic vessels inspired by the vases that decorate the set of the American sitcom The Golden Girls. The project attempts to catalogue and recreate the entirety of the vases that appear throughout the show’s main set, Blanche Devereaux's house in Miami. As decoration, ceramics often serve to establish tone or setting, functioning as shorthand signifiers of class or taste. They are present to be understood but overlooked: even when they function in the narrative – dropped, smashed, or shot – their unscathed form may appear unnoticed in subsequent episodes. As these set items are often only half-visible, verisimilitude is impossible, requiring the the vases of AN INVENTORY to exist midway between artifact and reproduction.
